Summer Sparkler

The weather is perfect for a refreshing Summer Sparkler. I have always wanted to use a pestle and mortar. They seem so romantic, I don't know why. Perhaps because it's a tool used practically since the beginning of time and all over the world.

Using the pestle to crush fruit and herbs is a wonderful way to release their scent and flavor and really enhances basic sparkling water for a refreshing summer drink. I own a Sodastream and carbonate my own filtered water. You can grind up whatever fruit you have on hand. I used strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries this time. If you like mint add that into the mix as well.

Fill glasses with crushed fruit and mint and top off with sparkling water. That's it. A splash of fruit juice is good too. I am planning to have these Summer Sparklers as the centerpiece for my next party. I plan to fill a big bowl with fruit, leave out the pestle and mortar, and let my guests go to town and create their own drinks. Sparkling water, juices, even alcohol. Enjoy.
