Simple Syrup is the key to the best lemonade ever! I have never had luck making lemonade. I could never get the taste right and the sugar always sinks to the bottom. A neighbor told me I should use simple syrup and he was right.
Making simple syrup is easy. In a small saucepan, bring one cup sugar and one cup water to a boil and simmer until sugar is completely dissolved, about three minutes. If you are making a lot of lemonade over the summer the syrup can be made ahead of time and refrigerated in a glass jar for up to one month.
While the simple syrup is cooling extract the juice from four to six lemons, enough for one cup of juice. Then, easy as can be, mix the simple syrup with the cup of lemon juice and add 3-4 cups cold water to dilute. If the juice is too sweet, add a little more straight lemon juice. Too tart?- add a little more water. Refrigerate. Serve with ice and sliced lemons.
Perfect for a warm summer day!
