The backyard is finally finished enough for me to start planting! I bought all starter plants this time because I was having one of those immediate gratification days. I even went to three different nurseries because they all ended up having different plants. I have some experience with certain plants while with others I have none. This garden will be a bit of trial by error.
I created one box for my daughters. I made a bean tepee that is now the home of our resistant garden gnome. I made a path of strawberries at his door and I am going to fill the back in with blueberries bushes that they can pick at their leisure. To the left of that box, I did three tomato plants, leeks, onions, garlic, chard, strawberry spinach, basil, and a huge variety of lettuces.
In the next box I planted corn in the back and filled the front in with a couple of different types of melons, cucumbers, and watermelons. Lastly, in the center of the fourth box I have an artichoke plant surrounded by potatoes, eggplants, peppers, and squashes. Now to sit back and watch it grow!!!
It is probably a good time to document what our yard has already been providing for us. Trees include:
Myer Lemon, Eureka Lemon, orange, kumquat, lime, apricot, avocado, some type of mini orange, loquat, and macadamia nut. We also have a passion fruit vine and tons of rosemary, mint, and fennel.
